M2M Wireless Mesh Network / Wireless Sensor Network Solution

Designed to be uncomplicated and easy to implement

The Tinymesh™ Solution, designed and developed by Tiny Mesh AS of Norway, is an “out-of-the-box” solution, with low total cost of ownership, intended to make it easy and uncomplicated for all kinds of companies to connect, communicate with and control all kinds of sensors, actuators, meters, assets, devices, tags and other things.

Tinymesh™ is not designed to be a carrier for video or voice. It is designed for applications that need to transport short, technical messages, such as control commands, instructions, conditional responses, metered data, measurements and similar types of information.

Wireless Mesh Network Solution

The main component of the Tinymesh™ Solution is a powerful bi-directional multi-hop wireless mesh network protocol stack. It requires no external processor for establishing and maintaining the optimum network routing path at all times. You connect your application to your Tinymesh™ Wireless Mesh Network through the equally uncomplicated Tinymesh™ Cloud Services.

Wireless Sensor Network Solution

A Tinymesh™ Wireless Sensor Network is defined to consist of a number of nodes where a node can be a Gateway, a Router or an End Device. The wireless network of nodes may be connected to any type of sensors or actuators.

Embeddable Wireless Modules

Tinymesh™ enabled RF Transceiver Modules are compact surface-mounted high performance modules for wireless mesh network applications. With their small footprint and ease of connectivity to sensors and actuators etc., they are designed to be easily embeddable in a multitude of devices.

The modules feature a fully embedded Tinymesh™ multi-hop wireless mesh network protocol stack with automatic network forming and self-healing features.

Serial application data is entered on the module's UART port and transported automatically to the desired destination node without further interaction from any external processor.

All data to be sent is stored in the module before transmitted by the RF circuitry.

Likewise, when data is received, data is stored in the module before delivered to the host. This allows the internal communication controller to add address information and to do error check of the data.

The RF traffic follows a tree-type topology, where data transfer is up or down in the tree structure. The following features are fully contained in the embedded Tinymesh™ Protocol Stack firmware:

  1. Optimum network self-forming
  2. Self-healing: The path with highest link quality and least number of hops to the recipient is chosen at any time. When optional paths are present, it is indicated with indicative blinks on an LED output. In a changing environment with changing link quality, the network dynamically adapts to the optimum route

The features for wireless data transfer between any two nodes in the network are:

  1. LBT (Listen Before Talk)
  2. RF data packet acknowledge
  3. Retransmission(s) when required
  4. AES128 encryption

Gateways, Routers and End-devices

Any Tinymesh™ module may function as Gateway, a Router or as an End Device (see below). Single byte configuration commands will set all relevant configuration parameters when changing operating mode.

• Gateway Device

A Tinymesh™ wireless mesh network must have at least one Gateway Device. The Gateway Device initiates the network formation, and is required to keep the network alive. Gateway Devices provide the connection between the Tinymesh™ Routers and End Devices, and an external host processor, or to a local or wide area network, such as the Internet.

• Router Device

Router Devices are full-functioning devices with serial data UART and Input / Output capabilities, Router Devices provide the communication path between individual Router or End-devices, and the network Gateway.

• End Device

A Tinymesh™ End Device will normally be in low power sleep mode for battery operation. End Devices have full input and output control capabilities, but will not accept messages for re-distribution from other devices. An End Device will wake up to full power mode by external stimuli, such as a digital input level shift, serial data input, pulse counter activity or by internal clock. Wakeup conditions are selectable through configuration settings. After waking up, the End Device will generate an Event Message or a Serial in Message, depending on the wake-up condition. After delivering the message, the End Device will either return directly to sleep condition, or stay awake for a settable time period, to wait for response commands from a server or application outside the Tinymesh™ Wireless Mesh Network.

World Wide License Free Operation

Tinymesh™ enabled RF Transceiver Modules are completely shielded and pre-certified for operation in world wide license free radio bands.
